what's the easiest way to configure the network , i have to configure my connection by MAC , i am using slack 12.2 full , some help would be apreciated . (cable connection assigned by DHCP)

try changing "auto eth0" to "allow-hotplug eth0" in your /etc/network/interfaces file

Try running the command system-config-network in the command line and post back any error messages

i have a MAC adress given by the administrator , what i have to do is to change my mac , any command for that ?

You can change it by using ifconfig, and making sure that the change is saved-probably in /proc or /etc in the relevant files.

ok , this works for me :

ifconfig eth0 up   - to start the network adapter
ifconfig eth0 hw ether "mac adress" - to change the mac adress

i rebooted , and i see that now i have to type again the same commads , the question is : how can i save the configuration ?
if i save it , i don't have to type it over and over every time i start my system ?

well you can do it with the HWaddr but I wouldn't advise since you would have to change it back each time you switch between windows and slack. I would just change it manually each time. Don't be some damn Lazy!
